Author Interview: Jessie Clever

Todays Interview is with Jessie Clever  author of  the Spy Series. Lets start the interview with a very personal question- What book do you consider your “guilty pleasure read”?

The House on Tradd Street series by Karen White.  It’s a guilty read because I’ve already read them twice.  So many books are out there waiting to be discovered and I keep re-reading these, because I can’t get enough of the hero, Jack!

-What book was most influential in your decision to become a writer yourself?
Dick Tracy in Hot Water.  This is a children’s book that I read in 2nd grade when the movie version starring Warren Beatty first came out.  (I just dated myself, I know!)  But it was full of intrigue and danger, and I said I can write something like this!
-If you could only read one sub-genre for the rest of your life, which genre would you choose and why?
Historical romance.  I think there’s a lot of liberty to be taken with history, and it’s fun to play with a preconceived notion of how things may have once been.

Let us turn the focus back to your writing- what is your favourite part of writing?

Being done with it.  I love the part when I can finally share a story with the world.  So much goes into the telling of  a story and getting the characters’ emotions just right that when it’s finally ready to show the world, it’s an exhilarating moment.

-What is your writing New Years Resolution?
Write less.  Ha!  I really pushed myself last year to get stories out because readers were clamoring for them.   This year I’m striving to focus on being a better writer, not a fast one.
-Has writing affected the way you read or the types of books you read?
Yes! I cannot read historical romances while I’m working on a project because I get too many voices tied up in my head!
-Finally tell me about your latest/upcoming book.
My most recent release was the third book in my Spy Series, A Countess Most Daring.  In Book Two of the Spy Series,For Love of the Earl, two agents for the War Office in search of Alec and Sarah’s kidnappers boarded a ship for unknown destinations.  In Book Three, we find out what happened to them.  Katharine Cavanaugh, the Countess of Stirling, has always lived according to the expectations of her heritage.  American mercenary Matthew Thatcher has spent his life running away from every expectation he has for himself.  But when their latest mission from the British War Office goes wrong, trapping them behind enemy lines, they must decide if they dare to realize the greatest expectation of all: the expectation of love.
